saw oppening scene

the name of the film( saw) tells the audience that this may be a horror film because a saw could be a tall used to hack off dead body parts

In the opening to the horror film saw the producers use an interesting font of writing to make the film seem like more of a drama then a horror. The producers do this so the audience feel like what they are about to watch isn’t going to be 100% blood and gore.
The film does use a lot of conventions for horror films such as when the light gets turned on it shows the man from a slightly high angle shot. This is so we feel like the man is small week and unprotected the audience can also tell that this is a horror film the moment we see a dead man on the floor coverd in blood, this shows the audience that there is a villian because someone has been killed
the scene is filmed in an old dirty room that looks as if it could of been a toilet before.this is interesting because it shows the audience that this room is unused and hidden away from society

because all the screen time in the opening is focusing on this one person that is locked in the the room makes the audience simpathise with him

the target audience for this film would be 18 year olds and above we can tell this from the opening because there is a dead person covered in blood in the first scene. if this film was a 12 it may have the actor look at the floor and seem disgusted and then show the body from an extreme long shot so the audience doesnt see much detail of the body
